Chiropractor offers online magazine

ESCONDIDO --- Derek Brunton, a chiropractor, has recently published an on-line magazine and although it's barely gotten off the ground, he has more than 10,000 subscribers.

"I thought that this would be a great way to connect with the community and give them health information," said Brunton, 39, of Escondido. He said the magazine, at www.EscondidoHealth.org, offers articles on "mainstream and alternative health care issues. It's already generated a lot of positive responses."

Escondido Health Online is part of a nationwide e-magazine, an editorial franchise of sorts, and the brainchild of chiropractor Sig Miller of New Jersey.

Health Online partners with health care organizations to offer consumers and providers personalized health care information on the Web. Recently, Brunton became the editor of the bi-monthly Escondido site, offering local weather, news, and an events calendar along with national and international health news articles. From bad backs to diet and nutrition to sports injuries, Brunton and Marlaine Paulsen Cover, his community relations' director, plan to personalize the magazine.

"What's great about this is that other health professionals in the area sign on with us," said Paulsen Cover. "When you see a an article that interests you then you can call up the doctor or dentist and ask them about it."

Brunton decided to become a chiropractor at the age of 6 when his mother's life was changed under the care of a chiropractic doctor. After undergraduate studies at Biola University he graduated from Life-West Chiropractic College.

Brunton has practiced in Escondido for 13 years.

The Web site contains articles written by health experts from all over the world. Soon, the Escondido chiropractor will write articles and add editor to his list of credentials.
